Trouble Shooting and Maintenance Hints

 

Drilling rock is a very difficult process and during drilling some problems with hammers might be faced. In order to avoid such problem the following precautions are taken:

Compressor Output is Checked for
Temperature & altitude are adjusted
Air pressure is checked with pressure gauge
Air filters are checked
Minimum Level of rock oil is maintained

Drill Rods are Checked for
Air leakage’s throughout
Pressure loss in hose

Weight on bit is checked for
Feed cylinder dropping
Proper rotation & feed

Control tube is checked for
Correct diameter and height
Chips at internal diameter
Burrs on outer diameter

Check valve is checked for
Proper seating

Level of rig is checked for
Level jacks leakage
Hydraulic pressure dropping at valve end

Insufficient Lubrication

Use proper amount &type of thread lubricants
Damaged thread
Thread breakage

Improper or damaged mating parts

Check the mating parts with api thread gauge

Threads rust

Maintain Proper Rust Preventive Oil

Check the mating parts
Outer Diameter Body
Wear Out

Abrasive formation

Increase hole cleaning
Avoid the wear out bits

Remove the threads burrs

Use proper amount & type of thread lubricants.
Thread breakage/Crack

Check the mating parts with API thread gauge
Open proper breakout tools
  Do not open with heat & hit

Threads rust

Maintain proper rust prevent oil
Operated with damaged threads

Od Body Wear Out

Body Cut

Remove the threads burs
To check control tube seating face perpendicular to honing bore in hammer case
Crack at Front Chuck End

Recommendations
Observe closely on hydraulic system elements and detect any leaks in the system, even though it may be very small, take appropriate action to correct them (simply by tightening the joints or reporting to the service engineer) Leaks on the radiator should be observed daily otherwise this will lead to engine failure.
